5 years ago, I had my first experience with coding. It was a simple scratch coding where we were taught the process of writing codes by just stacking blocks. Or so I thought in my psychologist’s brain.

After the training, I enjoyed it but didn’t think too much of it afterwards.

2 years later, my son was growing and getting bored constantly, I felt guilty as a mom because this was a boy with lots of potential and I felt I was not doing enough to engage his active brain.

There and then, I embarked on a search for explorative centers around me, where he would not just play and have fun, but also learn and be productively engaged. I found None.

So I moved on to plan B, and decided to look for resources that would fulfill my need for him. While I found some resources, the challenges they provided were not adequate for him.

At some point, I found programmable building blocks and some educational robots online, I instantly knew this was what I needed for him, but it was very difficult to get them here in Nigeria, they were also very expensive.

There and then I decided to find a way to reach out to some manufacturers of similar products, and make these powerful resources available to those who are like me and need such kits here in Nigeria.

That was how Beebahtics Enterprise began.

Its been 3 years, and even though I had aimed to help my son grow and get challenged, I have benefitted immensely as well in my thinking and thought process.

Through it, We both learnt to code, We practised with our robot kits, and the trajectory of my future changed a lot as I built up Beebahtics Enterprise selling these robot kits to those who knew its importance and usefulness.

But we had a challenge. I had observed that my son wanted more. He was learning to code, but he also wanted to design and draw. He craved to explore even more despite that he had a Number of resources at his disposal.

And this made me realize that our children grow as a result of the variety of exposure we give to them.

I have experienced how truly powerful coding can be for those who venture into it, but it also made me realize that learning how to code alone is not enough, there has to be more.

We decided to create the Beebahtics Explorer as a way to help pre-teens and teenagers experience more of STEM than just coding, and to give them access to resources that are difficult to get, but are essential in helping them explore, learn and apply skills without being bored.

In my experience with explorative STEM through various resources, I have witnessed a systematic change in the way I process my thoughts and make decisions.

I have seen the same results with my son, and other people who get exposed to STEM through skills and resources.

I see them making attempts to solve problems, create models, build solutions, design, with a yearning to learn more.

I have watched people make mistakes, get sad, get their hopes back up, and remind themselves how they need to keep trying to get the results they want.

It’s really been beautiful to watch, and it’s now time to help you and your pre-teen or teenager experience something similar.
